The Swiss Ex Libris Club (SELC) is a Swiss Association for preserving, studying and disseminating bookplate , serving, so the small graphics for the identification of ownership of books. It includes both private and institutional members from Germany and abroad.

history

The Swiss Ex Libris Club (SELC) was founded in 1968 by the Ticino collector Carlo Chiesa as an association. In the same year, the SELC was accepted into the Fédération Internationale des Sociétés d'Amateurs d'Ex-Libris (FISAE) at the annual meeting in Como . From the 1970s the club organized exhibitions in Zurich, Aarau, St. Gallen, Chur and Basel. Lists of works on Swiss artists and congress gifts were drawn up. Since 1990, the club has been publishing annual publications parallel to the association's magazine SELC-Express. The anniversary meeting for the 25th anniversary of the SELC took place in Winterthur in 1993. A large exhibition was shown in the local trade museum . The Winterthur libraries , which have a large collection of ex-libris, also look after the association's depot. Bookplate collections are also owned by the institutional members of the Basel University Library and the Zurich Central Library.

Purpose of the association

The purpose of the association is the research, maintenance and dissemination of the bookplate, the promotion of the production of the artistic bookplate, the support of the collecting activities of its members and the official representation of Switzerland at international bookplate congresses. True to this self-image, the SELC deals in its annual editions with the work of ex-libris artists and thematic aspects of the book owner's mark. In the association magazine SELC-Express, the members are informed about current issues in the field of bookplate art.

The SELC-Express informs club members three times a year about bookplate artists, collectors, literature, annual conferences and exchange meetings at home and abroad. The annual gift presents Swiss bookplate artists, including a.
