Schweminski (variants: Schweminski / Schweminska, Sweminski / Sweminska) is a German-Polish family name that developed from the German family name Schwemin. It is an origin name which refers to the place Schwemmin (Polish: Świemino) near Köslin in Pomerania , from which the Schwemins came. The later Schweminskis, on the other hand, are their descendants from the Koschneiderei in West Prussia.

At the beginning of the 18th century, families in the villages of koschneiderei , which " distinguished themselves through ownership and education", had the Polish suffix -ski appended to their surname, which resulted in the surname Schweminski being developed. Schweminski schoolchildren marry with one another and, in addition to schoolchildren from the German Koschneiderei villages, also with Schulzen families in the surrounding Polish villages, where the name variants Szweminski and Szweminska developed. Less well-off Schwemin families retained the original name form Schwemin, Szwemin or Swemyn.
