Emilian Edmund von Źernicki-Szeliga (born May 3, 1826 in Thorn ; † November 24, 1910 in Pankow near Berlin ) was a Prussian army and police officer, as well as heraldist , genealogist and publicist as a pensioner .

Life

origin

Emilian came from the Pomeranian line of noble family Źernicki-Szeliga. His parents were the Prussian captain a. D. , tax collector and director of the Schittno border customs office , and heir to Rubinkowo and Biskupice, Anton von Źernicki-Szeliga (1783–1836) and Emilie von Kolbe († 1826).

Career

Źernicki-Szeliga initially served in the Prussian army . He received his training in the Kadettenhaus Berlin , from where he was transferred to the 25th Infantry Regiment on August 9, 1842 as a second lieutenant . There he resigned on October 16, 1845, but resumed his service on August 27, 1846 with the 4th Landwehr Regiment with the rank of second lieutenant. From 1847 to 1850 he stayed with the 4th Landwehr Regiment. On October 17, 1850 he was transferred to the 18th Infantry Regiment , from where he retired from the army on January 4, 1853. After that he became head of the travel police and finally quit his job as police captain. As a pensioner without any historical training, Źernicki-Szeliga devoted himself to heraldry and the Polish nobility and their history. As a result, he was able to contribute several highly acclaimed works on the topic through his publications. In 1908 he lived in Berlin-Pankow , Parkstrasse 11.

The family vault of his family, including his own resting place is on the cemetery Pankow II .

Źernicki-Szeliga married Adelheid Eisenhart (1831–1895), who was born in Stendal , in Berlin-Pankow . The marriage resulted in the son Ignaz von Źernicki-Szeliga (* 1854), who later served as a captain and company commander in the Guards Pioneer Battalion . He married Olga von Wysiecka (* 1863) in 1884.
