Paul Panske

Paul Peter Panske , Polish Paweł Piotr Panske (born June 28, 1863 in Granau , Konitz district , † February 10, 1936 in Pelplin ) was a Prussian Roman Catholic clergyman in the Kulm diocese .

Life

Panske came from an old German peasant family of koschneiderei and was a son of the farmer Ignaz Matthäus (Ignacy Mateusz) Panske and Kat (h) arina Panske, nee. Musolf.

He attended high school in Konitz and from 1881 studied theology and philosophy in Würzburg , Breslau and finally Leipzig . After philological State Examination decided Panske his education with the promotion of Doctor of Philosophy .

Panske was ordained a priest in 1891 and was then vicar in Neuchâtel and Hochstüblau for two years . From 1893 he was a teacher at the Collegium Marianum in Pelplin. From 1902 to 1914 he was pastor in Bütow , during which time he was given several leave of absence for further studies in Leipzig. In 1914 he was appointed professor of ecclesiastical history at the seminary in Pelplin and in 1921 he was appointed clergyman and in 1923 cathedral chapter before he resigned his professorship in 1927. With his retirement , Panske took over the newly created position of diocesan archivist.

Works

Panske was said to have been more of a researcher than a teacher. While he initially devoted himself to classical history, his focus later turned more and more to local history. His work in this regard was valued as very reliable. He contributed many smaller articles to the communications of the Copernicus Society or the German scientific newspaper for Poland .
