The sisters of St. Jesus' childhood are a society of apostolic life . It was founded in 1835 by Canon Peter Joseph Triest . The main focus of the nuns' work was the care of foundlings , orphans and lonely young people. By the 20th century , the community established a dense network of schools , orphanages and old people's homes .

Since 2001, the sisters have managed and run eleven residential and nursing homes in East Flanders . A non-profit company was founded for this purpose .

They operate in 14 cities in Belgium and have two branches in the Democratic Republic of the Congo . Its generalate is in Oostakker near Ghent (Belgium).
