International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering
The International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) is the international society for soil mechanics and geotechnics . It was founded in 1936, in particular on the initiative of Karl von Terzaghi , and held its first congress at Harvard University in the same year . Until 1997 it was called the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering (ISSMFE). They have technical committees on standardization issues in various areas of geotechnical engineering (in 1997 there were 34 committees, abbreviated TC 1 to TC 34). The respective geotechnical national societies are members of the society. The company is based in London.
International ISSMGE conferences
The International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ICSMGE) usually takes place every four years (except for a major postponement due to the Second World War). It was previously called the International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering (ICSMFE).
