history

In 1900 the district administrator of the district of Coburg , Albert Schmidt , suggested the establishment of an association for rural health and welfare in the Duchy of Coburg. As a result, an association for the training of nurses was formed, which was named after the Duchess of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha , Marija Alexandrowna Romanowa , "Marienverein". The Marienhaus was built as the motherhouse on Seidmannsdorfer Straße in Coburg, near the former rural hospital, now the clinic . It opened in the following year.

In January 2017, the Coburg Sisterhood had to file for bankruptcy.
