International Television Production Deutschland GmbH ; Vera Int-Veen is the moderator . In 2020, the show switched from the previous evening to prime time .

concept

The program is based on the concept of allowing men to invite women they do not know and who they then live with for several days. Most of these men live with their mothers, hence the title “wanted daughter-in-law”. The couples are accompanied by a camera team throughout and Vera Int-Veen, the show's host, gives comments and explanations on what is happening on the show via voice-over .

Special programs and offshoots

Now it's the turn of the women

The “Daughter-in-Law Wanted” special has been going on since February 12, 2012: Now it's the turn of the women to be broadcast at irregular intervals.

Beate and Irene - the world has never seen that!

From June 28, 2015 to July 19, 2015 the - initially four episodes - offshoot Beate and Irene - The world has never seen this! broadcast. In this program, the candidate Beate, who has been participating in the program every year since the 3rd season of Daughter-in-Law Wanted in 2009, traveled with her mother Irene († January 11, 2017) through Mumbai in India and Tokyo in Japan. The two were given different tasks to complete.

criticism

The show was particularly criticized because it often makes the candidates ridiculous by post-processing the episodes and the entertainment value only seems to be to make fun of the protagonists. Judith Conrady from the online newspaper RP Online :

“From the loving observation of small everyday quirks has become a parade of peculiarities that are reminiscent of people watching at the fair - and in which you can read from each scene that there is a script behind it that probably doesn't have much to do with the real life of the candidates Has."

#Verafake

In the broadcast of Neo Magazin Royale on May 12, 2016, Jan Böhmermann announced under the hashtag #verafake that he had smuggled a candidate into the broadcast.

Significant deficiencies in production and in dealing with the candidates were revealed. Among other things, the candidate's apartment was decorated for a more bizarre picture, the candidates were exaggerated in their profiles and received clear instructions on behavior and text in places. Furthermore, the candidates were harassed when the contract was signed, received a very low allowance and only got their copy of the contract after the program had been broadcast. The team around Böhmermann accused Vera Int-Veen and the production company of targeted abuse of the candidates.

The candidate Robin, who was presented as a 21-year-old in the broadcast on April 10, 2016, was the 30-year-old actor Simon Steinhorst . His supposed father René, 38 years old, was played by the 55-year-old actor Andreas Schneiders. The team from Neo Magazin Royale (named “Team Royaleraff” based on the RTL production Team Wallraff - Reporter undercover ) rented an apartment in Duisburg and furnished it to match the candidate. In the report that was then shown, which showed the work of the production company with hidden cameras, it became known, among other things, that the candidates should receive an expense allowance totaling 150 euros for the 10 to a maximum of 30 days of shooting. RTL demands from advertisers up to 90,000 euros per minute during the commercial breaks in the programs. In addition, candidates would have to make an affidavit that they are in full possession of their intellectual abilities. Although the alleged father stated that he drank eight bottles of beer every day, the editor noted in the questionnaire that he did not consume alcohol every day. The alleged applicants only received the signed contract back after the program had been broadcast - around two months after it was signed.

“You made Robin and his father even more stupid than we made them up. That is quite something. You staged them as the very last fools. "

- Jan Böhmermann : Neo Magazin Royale

When asked by the media magazine DWDL.de , RTL spokesman Christian Körner stated that the broadcast episode should first be checked and, if necessary, the producers should be consulted before commenting on the matter. On May 13, 2016, RTL removed the program relating to the smuggled candidate from its media library. At the same time, the broadcaster denied parts of the allegations. The contract was sent several times to the address known to the broadcaster, but did not arrive there. The EUR 150 expense allowance would also correspond to the monthly basic allowance for assets of people who receive unemployment benefit II . Furthermore, RTL admitted that "errors in the area of editorial due diligence [were] made". The production of the current season should therefore be continued by a different team.

As a result of the disclosure, the Lower Saxony State Media Authority (NLM) initiated a preliminary examination. NLM Director Andreas Fischer criticized: "The way in which the production company concludes contracts with the candidates and presses them in doing so is strongly reminiscent of door- to- door sales ." The NLM had therefore requested the contract that the production company Warner Bros. International Television Production Germany concludes with the candidates on the show. No official test procedure was subsequently initiated. The NLM agreed with the broadcaster to take extra care when selecting candidates.
