The oath stone in Messenkamp

The oath stone or blood stone called Kreuzstein on the road from Messenkamp to Hülsede is considered the most valuable cultural monument in the municipality of Messenkamp in the district of Schaumburg in Lower Saxony .

description

The cross stone, which is slightly damaged in its upper area, has a height of 117 cm, a width of 50 cm and is 18 to 25 cm thick. On the front and back of the sandstone there is a longitudinally oriented Latin bar cross and an additional plow hole on the lower left on the front .

Since the reconstruction of the cross stone in the 1870s, its front has been decorated with the number 1875 and the initials KWP as well as a twig-like representation. Letters were also scratched on the back.

history

According to a legend, two farmhands once beat each other to death with a plow . A memorial stone was set up at the crime scene as a reminder. This later served as a stepping stone to cross the Rodenberger Aue or one of its tributaries.

At the time of coupling, the resident Wilhelm Pook hid the largely forgotten cross stone and set it up with various incisions near the site on the roadside of Hülseder Strasse in Messenkamp's location in Switzerland . From 1905 until the Bad Münder – Bad Nenndorf railway line was dismantled in the 1980s, the Kreuzstein stood here directly behind the level crossing at Messenkamp station.

In autumn 2014, a beet truck drove over Kreuzstein, which was overgrown by grass and blackberry tendrils. The building yard of the joint municipality of Rodenberg later put the stone back on.
