Sciaena is a genus ofthe Umberfishes family (Sciaenidae). It occurs with three species in the tropical to warm-temperate areas of the Atlantic , the Mediterranean and the Southwest Pacific .
features
Sciaena are elongated fish with a spindle-shaped body and a deep, conical head. The mouth is small to medium-sized and terminal or below, horizontal or with slightly hanging angles. The chin has neither barbels nor pores. The edge of the front cover is smooth or slightly serrated. The thorns of the gill trap are short. The dorsal fin is clearly divided into two parts by a notch and has 10 to 11 hard and 21 to 24 soft rays. The anal fin has a short base, a short second hard ray, and nine to ten soft rays.
