Thymus teucrioides is a plant type from the genus of thyme ( Thymus ) in the family of Labiatae .

description

Thymus teucrioides is a densely branched dwarf shrub . The leaves are in clusters in the armpits of the upright, felty hairy stems . The leaves are about 10 mm long and 4 mm wide. They are egg-shaped to rhombic, clearly stalked, the edge is almost sawed and bent back.

The flowers often do not form a pronounced inflorescence . The dummy whorls consist of two to six flowers. The bracts resemble the foliage leaves. The calyx is 4 to 6 mm long, the calyx tube is bell-shaped, the upper calyx teeth are longer than wide. The crown is 9 to 12 mm long and purple in color, the corolla tube is almost funnel-shaped.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 28 or 30.

Occurrence

The species is common in the mountains of Albania and Greece .

Systematics

One can distinguish three subspecies:

  • Thymus teucrioides subsp. alpinus Hartvig : It occurs in Greece.
  • Thymus teucrioides subsp. candilicus (Beauverd) Hartvig : It occurs in Greece.
  • Thymus teucrioides subsp. teucrioides : It occurs in Albania and Greece.
