Scientific Organizing Committee

As Scientific Organizing Committee (abbreviated SOC ) or Program Committee , at professional conferences and larger meeting of that committee , referred to by renowned experts responsible for the content hosting the meeting.

In addition to well-known scientists, major events also appoint chairmen of participating specialist societies or scientific umbrella organizations to this body . Depending on the type of conference, the members come either from the regional language area or from organizations that operate worldwide.

The local organization, on the other hand, is carried out by a Local Organizing Committee (LOC), to which mostly young employees belong. It is u. a. responsible for the infrastructure on site, for the conference papers and the conference office .

The papers submitted for the lecture (see call for papers ) are now mostly subjected to a technical assessment, for which the expert commission often also uses external reviewers . The oral presentations submitted (time limit for large conferences about 15 minutes) often have to be redirected to poster sessions due to time constraints . Although posters are generally seen as less important, they are usually not reviewed if they are for several authors.
