Scirocco is a German Beat - band , which in the 1960s in the GDR was founded. The band was banned four times in the GDR for spreading western cultural assets and anti-socialist music.

history

The history of the Scirocco group began in 1964 with the founding of the band Crazies by Volker Thiele, which, however, was immediately banned because of the “spreading of Western cultural assets and anti-socialist music”. Together with Hendryk Wendt, Thiele continued to play under the name Tornados . In 1968 they founded the Hoermens formation . This time they were banned for life. With the note that they were anti-socialists, enemies of the state and propagators of western tendencies, all relevant institutions of the GDR were informed.

In 1970, the first recordings on television in the GDR followed under the name Scirocco . The song Sagen my Aunts was broadcast on the program The Central Bank . This song made the band popular, so it was officially re-admitted due to the growing popularity among the population.

Scirocco became one of the most successful music groups in the GDR. In the years that followed, there was a large number of live and television appearances in the GDR, but also abroad, around 1983 in the USSR , Hungary , Romania and Czechoslovakia .

Due to the many concerts and tours that the band gave at home and abroad, studio recordings were rather rare. However, some radio productions were made.

The band's success came to an abrupt end due to the German reunification . Due to the lack of opportunities to perform, her work came to a halt temporarily. During this time, however, there were private recordings in the studio of the former bass player Pokrandt. Among other things, Thiele also composed some hymns for football clubs in and around Berlin. It was not until 1994 that Scirocco started again with live performances. This was followed by concerts with well-known international beat bands such as the Lords , Sweet and Hollies . In 2002 the first regular album was not over yet .

During this time, Hendryk Wendt had to leave the band for health reasons.

In 2006 Scirocco then produced new titles in both English and German.
