The Helenesee is a lake near Frankfurt (Oder) in the Oder-Spree lake area. It is a local recreation area and is located in the landscape protection area of the former Finkenheerd mine area , where the Katja lake to the southeast is also located. The Helenesee stop on the Königs Wusterhausen – Beeskow – Frankfurt (Oder) line on the RB 36 line is served hourly by trains from the Niederbarnimer Railway (NEB).

The lake is around 220 hectares and at 56.63 m, it is the second deepest lake in Brandenburg . It is located in the midst of the Brandenburg pine forests around eight kilometers south of Frankfurt (Oder) and is one of the cleanest lakes in the state. Its good water quality and the kilometers of textile and nudist beaches gave the lake its nickname "Little Baltic Sea".
Recreational use
The lake is popular with divers because of the nature of the bottom . It originated from the former open-cast lignite mine "Grube Helene" (1906 to 1958). Several diving clubs, a diving school and a submarine for tourists are located on the Helenesee.
From Easter to October there is a sporty and cultural program such as children's programs, beach parties, live bands and disco evenings. There are tennis and volleyball courts , soccer fields , diving and surfing schools, as well as boat, pedal mobile and bicycle rentals available. The highlights of each season are the Helene Beach Festival for the young generation and the traditional Neptune Festival for families.
The Frankfurt underwater club Helene organizes a New Year's dive every year. Participants such as the specialists from the Federal Police , who have been taking part in the traditional event for several years, use helicopters to simulate rescue operations in flowing water.
In 2009 disputes broke out due to dissatisfaction between residents and the operating company Helene-See AG. The campers feel hindered by the operator on their vacation. Shortly afterwards the management changed.
In 2012 a new operating company took over the fate of Lake Helen.
In 2013, the Helenesee was named Brandenburg's most beautiful lake by rbb viewers.
