In 1934 Paul Sacher married Maja Hoffmann-Stehlin , the widow of Emanuel Hoffmann , son of Fritz Hoffmann-La Roche , who in turn is the founder of the pharmaceutical company of the same name, Hoffmann-La Roche . Scobag was founded in 1968 by Sacher as a family office and independent asset management and trust company and from then on looked after the founding family. In addition to the mandate of the Hoffmann-La Roche family, the bank opened up to other customers over time and obtained a banking license in 1986 . It currently employs around 35 people and in 2018 managed around 25 billion Swiss francs in client assets.

One of the bank's specialty areas are foundation services . Paul Sacher himself set up his own foundation in 1973 . He stipulated in writing that Scobag should continue to be responsible for the financial affairs of the Paul Sacher Foundation after his death. Based on this patronage tradition, Scobag looked after other charitable organizations over time. Today there are several dozen foundations. With the Kunigunde and Heinrich Foundation, which supports the sick and needy in the Basel region, Scobag has also been active as a donor since 1992.

Scobag Privatbank is wholly owned by the Swiss family, mostly owned by the Hoffmann and Oeri families, descendants of Fritz Hoffmann-La Roche and owners of the pharmaceutical company Hoffmann-La Roche.

Management

Barbara Vannotti-Holzrichter has been CEO since October 2018. She previously worked in wealth and asset management, most recently as CIO Alternatives Europe in London and a member of the executive board of Rothschild HDF Investment Solutions.

The management also consists of Serge Lutgen, Daniel Jirasko and Dr. Felix López. Serge Lutgen has been with Scobag since 2013. Prior to that, he was Head of Private Banking for the Basel region at Credit Suisse. Before joining Scobag in 2011, Daniel Jirasko was an independent lawyer. Felix López joined Scobag management in 2018. Up to this point he was a lawyer with his own law firm.

Board of Directors

The board of directors is chaired by lawyer Peter Schaub. He has been an independent lawyer specializing in tax law, inheritance law and corporate law for 25 years. Wilhelm Hansen and Dr. Urs Ernst. At the 2019 Annual General Meeting, lawyer Bruno Dallo and M&A specialist Frenk Mutschlechner were elected to the Board of Directors as successors to Ernst and Hansen on October 1, 2019. Bruno Dallo headed Scobag for 12 years as Chairman of the Management Board (CEO).

Financial & investment advice

Scobag offers all aspects of succession and inheritance advice, retirement planning and services in the area of ​​taxes and asset management. In addition, the private bank supports customers with other services such as customer accounting, personnel administration and project support for entrepreneurial or patronage projects.

With Scobag 3a Direktinvest, Scobag continues to offer its own pension service. With the third pillar solution, the private bank invests primarily in direct investments on behalf of its customers. Different risk profiles can be addressed by means of variable shares.

Financial services for foundations

Due to the wealth of experience in this area, foundations can outsource all financial services to the bank in addition to asset management. Scobag offers several services for foundations of different sizes:
