Career highlights and awards

Scott Allen Norwood (* 17th July 1960 in Alexandria , Virginia ) is a former American American football poker players on the position of the Kickers . He played for the Birmingham Stallions of the United States Football League (USFL) and the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL).

Norwood, who was a trained soccer player, established himself as a valuable kicker for the James Madison University football team . His professional career began in 1983 with the USFL's Birmingham Stallions. In 1985, Norwood moved to the NFL's Buffalo Bills, which were one of the weakest league teams at the time, until head coach Marv Levy built a powerful team around quarterback Jim Kelly , running back Thurman Thomas and defensive end Bruce Smith in the late 1980s .

Norwood was voted the best players in the Pro Bowl match in 1988 and reached the Super Bowl XXV against the New York Giants with the Bills . With a few seconds to go it was 19:20, and Norwood had the chance to decide the game with a field goal from 47 yards. Norwood's shot went wide right and became one of the most famous misses in NFL history. In the play-offs of the following year, Norwood rehabilitated himself by converting the decisive field goal against the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game , the Super Bowl XXVI was lost to the Washington Redskins . After that, Norwood was replaced by Steve Christie and ended his career. After his playing career, he worked in the real estate industry.

Norwood's miss has been covered twice in other media. In the movie Ace Ventura (1994), a kicker named Ray Finkle awards a field goal at the last second that would have won the Miami Dolphins the Super Bowl. In the film Buffalo '66 (1998) a kicker named Scott Wood had the same mishap for the Buffalo Bills.

Norwood is married with three children.
