Scott Vandergrift

Scott Vandergrift (* 1940 in Ocoee ) is a former American local politician ( Republican Party ) and former mayor of the city of Ocoee in the state of Florida .

biography

Vandergrift's ancestors moved to the Ocoee area in the 1930s. At the time of his birth, only about 750 people lived in today's city of over 35,000 inhabitants.

Vandergrift studied Management and Marketing , earned a Bachelor of Science degree, and served in the US Navy from 1958 to 1960 . He is a trained real estate agent with over 30 years of professional experience. Among other things, he was a board member of the Chamber of Commerce of West Orange (in Orange County ) and from 1967 to 1969 a commissioner for the city of Ocoee.

Vandergrift was elected Mayor of Ocoee for the second time in 1992. Before that he held this office from 1973 to 1975. According to his own statement, it was and is very important to him to maintain the small-town atmosphere of Ocoee despite the enormous population growth.

On July 31, 2015, Vandergrift resigned prematurely from his position as mayor for reasons of age during the ninth term of office.

Vandergrift was married to his wife Beth for 22 years, who died of cancer in 2013. The marriage resulted in a son and two daughters.
