Scrap Mechanic is a construction - Computer game of aXolot games. It is currently in beta and has a sandbox mode, a challenge mode in which the player with limited resources has to build a vehicle to cover a route and, since May 2020, also has a survival mode.
Gameplay
In the game, the player designs and builds complex machines and systems in an open game world . To do this, he should pay attention to the principles of mechanics , vehicle construction and other engineering knowledge, which are, however, presented in a very simplified manner.
The structures can also be shared with other players via the Steam Workshop. It can be played in both single player and multiplayer mode . The game world can be adapted with a special map editor . There's also a survival mode that puts more emphasis on fighting and exploring the game world.
Development and publication
The game was developed by aXolot Games, which also Raft published, and on January 20, 2016 Steam - Early Access Program published. In addition to the sandbox mode, it should also have a survival mode. The developers had already gained experience at the Mojang Studios development studio , which develops Minecraft .
reception
After it was released in Early Access, the game made it into the Steam top sellers and received mostly positive reviews from users. Due to the game principle, the game is compared to titles such as Minecraft , Space Engineers and Medieval Engineers , with a focus on technology. Scrap Mechanic is therefore also seen as a digital implementation of the Lego technology series.
In the opinion of PC Games , the game offers the player many possibilities to define details and to express their creativity . The operation is well implemented and kept simple, but projects can still be complex. However, the development version still lacks functions and there are game bugs. PCGamesN describes the creations in the game as cool, clever and crazy. The game gained further prominence through Let's Play videos on YouTube .
