The Spring Figwort ( Scrophularia vernalis ) is a plant type from the genus of scrophularia ( Scrophularia ) in the family of Figworts (Scrophulariaceae).
description
The spring figwort is an upright, woolly hairy plant that reaches heights of 30 to 70 cm. The stem is square and hairy glandular-shaggy. The leaves are opposite, they are triangular, heart-shaped, somewhat wrinkled and covered with soft trichomes . The leaf margin is deeply serrated.
The flowers are in inflorescences , whose dichasia-like , ball- shaped partial inflorescences are long stalked. The crown is almost radial symmetry, it is pale greenish-yellow in color.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 40.
distribution
The spring figwort occurs in southern, western and central Europe, as well as in southwest Asia. In Germany, however, it is probably only a locally introduced neophyte . It grows in parks, light deciduous forests and fringes on fresh, alkaline and nutrient-rich clay soils. It occurs mainly in companies of the Alliarion association.
ecology
The spring figwort is a partial shade plant. It is a nutrient pointer and used to be a forage plant for bees.
