Elsinore Cathedral

The St. Olai Cathedral in Helsingør (Danish Sct. Olai Kirke, Helsingørs Domkirke ) is the seat of the Evangelical Lutheran Bishop of Helsingør .

The church consecrated to St. Olav was built around 1200 and significantly expanded between 1400 and 1450, so that Gothic elements are characteristic. Further extensions followed between 1475 and 1560, part of the inventory is kept in the Renaissance style. Today's bell tower is already the third, it dates from 1897/98. The church was not originally conceived as an episcopal church; it only received this status in 1961 when the diocese of Copenhagen was divided.

The cathedral stands out for its 12 meter high baroque - altar , 1664 created by Lorentz Jørgensen, student Hans Gudewerdt the younger of Eckernförder carver school , and the frescoes from the Renaissance to the vault of the ship.
