The Scuola superiore di polizia is an Italian police college based in Via Pier della Francesca 3 in the Flaminio district of Rome . The college is subordinate to the main public security department of the Italian Ministry of the Interior and trains prospective police officers of the higher service of the Polizia di Stato .

education

In contrast to the military police organizations in Italy ( Carabinieri , Guardia di Finanza ), the civil state police do not offer an undergraduate degree for candidates for the higher service . The prerequisite for admission to the selection process at the scuola superiore di polizia is a university degree of at least five years. As a rule, this involves studying law , politics or economics , but graduates from other courses are also employed if there is a particular need.

Candidates for the non-technical higher service complete a two-year training course at the Scuola superiore di polizia , which is completed in cooperation with civil universities with a master's degree. For applicants for technical or special subjects, the training lasts one year, but also ends with a master's degree. These are usually doctors, engineers, physicists, chemists, biologists, and psychologists. The courses are also open to a limited extent to students from cooperating universities and members of foreign police organizations. In addition, the Scuola superiore di polizia offers a range of advanced training courses.

history

The history of the university goes back to the forensic science courses that the forensic doctor Salvatore Ottolenghi held from 1902 for police officers in Regina Coeli prison . From 1903 these courses developed into the Scuola di polizia scientifica , which was renamed the Scuola superiore di polizia in 1925 . In the late 1950s she moved from Regina Coeli prison to Viale dell'Aeronautica in the EUR district . In 1982, in the wake of far-reaching reforms in the state police, it merged with a police academy that was established in 1964 from various older police schools and had its headquarters in Via Pier della Francesca . The police college merged there was henceforth called Istituto superiore di polizia . Until 2004 she offered two different training courses. Applicants with a university entrance qualification completed a four-year, undergraduate, law-oriented degree, which was followed by a nine-month specialist training. In general, this corresponded to the classic officer training at Carabinieri and Guardia di Finanza. The other course was aimed at graduates from civil universities and was limited to nine-month specialist training. In 2004 the first training course was canceled without replacement and the second was reformed and expanded. Since 2006, the university has been renamed Scuola superiore di polizia again . Until 2016, she also trained candidates for the former forest police authority Corpo Forestale dello Stato .
