Sear was a Finnish black and death metal band from Helsinki that was founded in 2001 and broke up around 2007.

history

The band was formed in 2001 by guitarist Matias Helle and singer Tapsa Kuusela after their previous group split up. A little later the guitarist K. Lilja and the bassist Thomas Vee joined them. Then work on the first songs began. A first demo was then recorded with session drummer Tony Steel . A little later, Lauri Laaksonen joined as a permanent drummer. Since his arrival changed the style of the music away from slow to faster songs, Lilja and Vee decided to leave the line-up. Mika Nieminen took over the bass while Alex played the second electric guitar. The latter left the group after only one appearance. After another demo was recorded and released with Realm of Lies Falling Down , Dynamic Arts Records became aware of the band, which then negotiated a contract with the label. At this point Sami Wass was the new guitarist in the band. In early 2005, Sear signed a recording deal for the release of three albums, after which the debut album Begin the Celebrations of Sin was released in April . This brought the band a nomination for Best Newcomers at the Finnish Metal Awards 2005. For personal reasons, Kuusela and Nieminen left in the summer, who were replaced in January 2006 by singer Harry Hyytiäinen and bassist T. Landen. Then work began on the second album, before Wass left the group in the summer of 2006. His job was taken over by a friend of the band, Juha Henttunen. In December 2006 the band finished the recordings for the second album, which had taken place in the Ruho studio , with Santeri Salmi having mixed the material. The album was released the following year under the name Lamentations of Destruction . Then the band broke up.

style

Gunnar Sauermann from Metal Hammer wrote in his review of Begin the Celebrations of Sin that the band's content is mainly based on Black Metal. Otherwise the music sounds a lot like Death Metal and Grindcore . This comparison is confirmed above all "with deep grunt singing , rare screeching interludes and their pumping concrete guitars ". Anzo Sadoni wrote in a later edition that the band on Lamentations of Destruction is mainly devoted to extreme Death Metal, but black metal passages are always worked in. Sometimes the band reminds me of Morbid Angel , Dissection or Cannibal Corpse . Occasionally they also work in more modern passages that sound like Neo-Thrash , in which the singer Hyytiäinen tries to sing powerfully and clearly.
