Skirmish is a Finnish thrash metal band from Kajaani that was formed in 2005.
history
The band was founded in October 2005 and consisted of the singer Timo Komulainen, the guitarists Tero Kemppainen and Mikko Kupiainen and the drummer Jukka Tolonen. At the time, the group had neither a bass player nor a name. Members began rehearsing old songs they had previously written for other projects, as well as new Kemmainens and Kupiainens. A first three-song demo was recorded in December, but it was never released. In February 2006, Harri Leinonen joined as bassist. At the same time Komulainen was replaced by the singer Jani Niskanen. In the summer the EP Four Devouring Pieces was recorded, which consists of the four songs Follow Me , Devoured by Emptiness , Reprisoul and Burying the Seeds of Truth . In January 2007 the band began rehearsing new songs with the new drummer Tommi Palo. In 2008 and 2010 two further EPs followed with Undefined Phobias and Skirmish . In 2011, the debut album Through the Abacinated Eyes was released on Violent Journey Records , followed by Jet-Black Days on Eternal Sound Records in 2013 .
style
According to Minos Dokopoulos from metalkaoz.com , the album includes riffs that are reminiscent of Slayer , a thundering drum game and fast solos . The speed of the songs is mostly in the medium to high range. Similarities to Exodus and Amon Amarth can also be heard. Walter from Metal.de wrote in his review of Jet-Black Days that you can hear “[e] in official board full of coarse-hearted Thrash fare”, trying to “build a bridge between pure aggression and harsh brutality To create fine motor-voiced melodies in combination with profound melancholy on the other hand ”. The album mimicked riffs from Kreator , Slayer, Dark Angel , old Sepultura and early Exodus. The speed is usually high, with deliberately throttled passages being interspersed. In these passages you get closer to Black Metal in terms of sound . The solos would be reminiscent of Alexi Laiho 's.
