Depressed Mode is a Finnish death doom band from Pori that was formed in 2005.

history

The band was formed in late 2005 with the song Words of Silence . It was initially a solo project by Ossy Salonen. For the song Salonen still needed guitar sounds, which is why he asked his old bandmate Tomppa Turpeinen, who eventually became a member of the band. A little later Natalie Koskinen from Shape of Despair joined in, who contributed vocals to the song. In the fall of 2006, the label Firebox Records became aware of the group, with which they signed a contract for the release of two albums. In November Koskinen went to Pori to record the vocals in Salonen's home studio. After the vocals and electric guitars were recorded, the group realized that the guitars did not sound as they should. Jori Haukio then did the rest of the mixing from early 2007. Haukio brought Marko Tommila as a drummer, as he was a long-time friend of his. Tommila was also an old band colleague of Salonen. The drums, bass, electric guitars and cello were recorded in Haukio's home studio. In the summer of 2007, bassist Jani Lamminpää was replaced by Henri Hakala. The album was released in August under the name Ghosts of Devotion on Firedoom Music , the sub-label of Firebox Records. In the summer of 2007, Teemu "Telaketju" took over Heinola Haukio's position. The band made their first appearance on January 12, 2008. Before the recordings for the second album began in late 2008, Iiro Aittokoski was hired as the new drummer. ..For Death .. was produced with Jori Haukio in Ansa Studio in Ulvila and then mastered by Mika Jussila in Finnvox Studios . The publication took place in February 2009.

style

Thomas from Metal.de wrote about Ghosts of Devotion that it contains Doom Metal , in which the keyboards would play an important role. Sometimes the music also tends towards slow, melodic Black Metal in the style of Hecate Enthroned . The song Alone is reminiscent of a slower version of Old Man's Child and is different from the rest of the album. The album is characterized by pure Doom Metal, with a melancholy reminiscent of My Dying Bride . Sometimes one also borders strongly on Funeral Doom . The female vocals bring back memories of Shape of Despair in the days of Angels of Distress , but there are also male growls . Tony Cannella from femmemetalwebzine.net described the music of ..For Death .. as atmospheric Death Metal . Salonen's singing alternates with Koskinen's, and the use of the keyboard is also particularly characteristic. The music sounds like a soundtrack for a movie.
