Terhen is a Finnish Death Doom band from Kangasniemi , which was founded in 2004 under the name Thamuz .

history

The band was founded in January 2004 under the name Thamuz. A first demo was recorded for trial purposes in May . After the group worked on more new material, they made a music clip for a fashion show in Beijing , which helped them increase their profile. In October 2005 the band went into the studio to record the demo Self Crusifixion MMV , which contains three songs that can also be heard on the later debut album. Shortly after the recordings, the then drummer left the line-up due to lack of time, but stayed with the group as a songwriter. The demo was sent to various labels, whereby the group reached a record deal with Firebox Records . At that time, the band also changed their name to Terhen.

Then began work on the debut album under the direction of Mikko Suuronen , with whom the band had already worked for Self Crusifixion MMV . Risto Ylönen worked as a producer . In February, recording of the drums began with Joni Romo as the new drummer. Another new member was Elisa Pellinen, who taxed female singing. In 2007 the debut album Eyes Unfolded was released via Firedoom Music , the sub-label of Firebox Records .

style

Olvido from metal.de stated that on Eyes Unfolded you can hear a mixture of Death- and Doom-Metal , the drawn out growls and pain-filled screams as well as a “hypnotizing-slow drumming up to double bass in mid-tempo, low-pitched guitars, sometimes rolling, sometimes melodic-crying, and atmospheric keyboard sounds ”. The group attaches particular importance to an atmosphere that ranges from “ melancholy and sadness to the deepest depression ”, which was typically Finnish for him and aroused a comparison to Unholy . Alexander Eitner from metalnews.de also reviewed the album. It contains atmospheric Death Doom with a high keyboard portion, which mainly contributes the melodies. The singing consists of growls and is not very variable. In his opinion, the music was inferior to that of Swallow the Sun.
