In addition, the website also offers a regular web search engine that allows you to filter by regions in Switzerland, but the range of functions is kept to a very minimal level. In the past, the site also contained an advertising portal , for example for job advertisements, cars and real estate, a free SMS service and other functions.

Statistics and data

The site is operated by localsearch with its headquarters in Zurich , which belongs to Swisscom Directories AG, in which Swisscom owns 69% and Tamedia 31% of the shares.

Together with the local.ch site, which has been merging more strongly with search.ch since 2015, localsearch receives over 7.3 million unique visits from different devices per month and more than 42 million individual visits per month. The use of the mobile variants is increasing sharply. The apps from local.ch and search.ch are among the most popular apps in Switzerland.

history

The site has existed since 1995 and was originally a pure web search engine for Switzerland, developed by Rudolf Räber and Bernhard Seefeld. Later it developed more and more into an information and address portal that competed with the local.ch site, which became more and more successful over time. There was therefore great interest in a merger between the two sides. According to an article in the Handelszeitung , Tamedia planned to take over parts of PubliGroupeSA for CHF 350 million in April 2014 . In May 2014 it became known that PubliGroupe SA / Swisscom (PubliGroupe has been owned by Swisscom since September 5, 2014 ) and Tamedia AG want to bring the companies local.ch and search.ch into a joint subsidiary. After review by the competition commission , the deal was approved in 2015 and a merger planned for the middle of the year. Together they want to work together to withstand the international competitive pressure of the major search engines and social networks. Entries in the telephone directories have been free of charge since 2018.
