Sebastian Fritsch  (born December 2,  1996  in  Stuttgart ) is a  German cellist .

Life

Sebastian Fritsch is the winner of the TONALi cello competition in 2018. In the finale, which took place on June 30, 2018 in the great hall of the Elbphilharmonie , he played Robert Schumann's cello concerto together with the Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen under the direction of Joshua Weilerstein . In addition to the first prize, he was awarded the audience prize (3,000 euros), admission to the tonalist agency, the Mariinsky special prize and the Saltarello prize.

Fritsch studied cello from 2014 to 2018 with Jean-Guihen Queyras at the Freiburg University of Music. In 2018 he was accepted into the cello class of Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt in Weimar. He is also a scholarship holder of the Liechtenstein International Music Academy and takes part in the intensive weeks there. The cellist a. a. by Jens-Peter Maintz , Wen Sinn Yang , Maria Kliegel and Lucas Fels . He also works with his long-time teacher Lisa Neßling .

He also made guest appearances at the Cello Biennale Amsterdam , the Salzburg Festival , the opening of the Illertissen music festival “Young Talents - Stars of Tomorrow”, at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and at the Cello Academy Rutesheim . In the gifted class at the Stuttgart Music School, he met his chamber music partner Rosa Wember (violin). With her he founded the Stuttgart Chamber Duo in 2010 , which u. a. toured in the USA, Italy and Germany. In 2015, the duo toured as instrumental partner of the Vienna Boys' Choir and was accepted into the Yehudi Menuhin Association Live Music Now .

Sebastian Fritsch plays a 2016 Thorsten Theis cello made available to him by the Karl Schlecht Foundation .
