Sebastian Wille (born September 11, 1966 in Kiel ) is a German urologist . His scientific focus is on reconstructive urology and urological dysfunctions of the lower urinary tract , including female and male urinary incontinence .

Life

Sebastian Wille first studied economics at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel before he began studying human medicine at the Philipps-Universität Marburg and the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich . After receiving his doctorate in 1995, he trained as a urologist in Munich, Bern and Marburg. In 2004, Wille began his work as a senior physician at the University Hospital Cologne , where he completed his habilitation in 2007 on the subject of urinary incontinence after radical prostatectomy . Since 2013, Wille has been the coordinator of the continence and pelvic floor center at the Cologne University Hospital in addition to his work as a senior consultant. In 2014 Wille was appointed adjunct professor . In 2015 he moved to the private clinic "Beta Klinik GmbH" in Bonn as head of the urology department.

Scientific contribution

Willes' scientific orientation was already evident in his doctoral thesis fluorescence in situ hybridization on paraffin sections as a diagnostic aid in archived cases with questionable trisomy 18 . As part of his specialist training, he was particularly interested in functional disorders of the lower urinary tract, especially urinary incontinence after radical tumor surgery of the prostate . During his stay in Bern, Wille conducted research in collaboration with Urs E. Studer on non-milking of the urethra after prostate surgery. During his time as an assistant in Marburg, in cooperation with Axel Heidenreich , he examined the therapeutic advantages of biofeedback and electrical stimulation therapy after prostatectomy in a randomized study . This was followed by further work on modifications of the surgical technique of prostatectomy and identification of risk profiles with regard to the development of urinary incontinence. In his habilitation thesis, he first described the connection between erectile dysfunction and postoperative urinary incontinence after radical tumor surgery of the prostate and developed a prognostic model for incontinence after prostatectomy. Wille also published on the postoperative changes in urination after surgery for benign prostate enlargement (BPH) using laser surgery . His scientific interest in the improved diagnosis of patients with an overactive bladder culminated in the invention of a measuring capsule for catheter-free long-term urodynamics ( Wille capsule ). For the invention, which has been patented several times, Wille was awarded the first German Urology Lecture Prize. In addition to his research work, Wille also makes contributions to scientific research as a reviewer for urological journals, as an organizer of national and international congresses and as a member of the advisory board for international companies.

Memberships in scientific associations

Wille is a member of the following national and international urological specialist societies: North Rhine-Westphalia Society for Urology (NRWGU), German Society for Urology (DGU) , German Continence Society (DKG) , European Association of Urology (EAU) and International Continence Society (ICS) ) .

honors and awards

Wille has been awarded the “best poster price” several times by national and international scientific associations: American Urological Association (AUA) (2001), NRW-Gesellschaft für Urologie e. V. (2005) and EAU Best Poster Price European Association of Urology (EAU) (2005) and MEDICA (2013). In 2013 he also received the first lecture award from the German Society for Urology.

Wille is the author and co-author of more than 120 scientific papers and book contributions:
