Axel Heidenreich

Axel Heidenreich (born May 12, 1964 in Hanau ) is a German doctor and professor of urology at the University Hospital Cologne . His clinical focus is radical tumor surgery of the prostate , urinary bladder , kidney and testes , medicinal uro-oncology, salvage surgery for advanced urological tumors and reconstructive urological surgery. He is chairman of the prostate cancer guideline commission of the European Society of Urology.

Life

After studying human medicine at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in Mainz and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Medicine in San Antonio , USA , he received his doctorate in 1992 and completed his specialist training in urology in 1996 . From 1995 to 1996 he was a research fellow at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda , Maryland and at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, DC From 1997 to 1998 he was senior consultant at the Clinic and Polyclinic for Urology at Cologne University Hospital , in 1998 to receive his habilitation and venia legendi for urology. From 1999 to 2003 Heidenreich was the senior consultant at the Clinic for Urology and Pediatric Urology at the Philipps University of Marburg . In 2004 he was appointed adjunct professor . 2004–2008 he headed the urological oncology department of the urology clinic at the Cologne University Hospital. From 2008 to 2015 Heidenreich was Director of the Urology Clinic at the University Hospital Aachen . In 2015 he took over the chair for urology at the University Hospital Cologne.
