Sechys

Sechys , also Secchie, Secchia, Secchj, Sechio, was an Italian measure of volume for liquids, especially for oil and wine . On the island of Ithaca it was only an oil measure . The measure was not uniform and in Venice it was around 9.9 liters , in Verona it was around 17.6 liters.

  • Ferrara : 8 Sechys = 1 Mastilly / Mastello = 516 Parisian cubic inches = 10.24 liters
  • Istria : 6 hexes = 1 Urna = 710 Parisian cubic inches = 14.08 liters
  • Kefalonia : 1 Sechys = 12 Boccali = 24 Quartucci
    • Kefalonia: 6 hexes = 1 barile
  • Venice, Santa Maura , Kefalonia: 1 Sechio = 4 Bozzo = 16 Quartucci
    • Venice: 6 Sechio = 1 Mastello
  • Brescia : 1 Sechio = 9 pints = 18 boccali
    • Brescia: 4 Sechio = 1 Zecle
    • Brescia: 48 sixes = 1 carro
    • Brescia: 1 Sechio = 12.4357 liters
