Adani Illo (born July 28, 1956 in Tanout ) is a Nigerien diplomat .

Life

Adani Illo comes from the Damergou in central Niger. He completed his Baccalauréat in 1976 in Niamey , the capital of Niger . He received a license in political science from the Mohammed V University in Morocco in 1979 and a maîtrise en droit from the University of Nice in France in 1980 and a Diplôme d'études approfondies in international law for development in 1981 . In 1982 he joined the Nigerien Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. Under Foreign Minister Idé Oumarou , he was first section head , then department head . In 1987 he became European Director in the Foreign Ministry.

Illo changed to the diplomatic service under Head of State Ali Saibou and worked at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington, DC from 1988 as first councilor and from 1991 as interim chargé d' affaires. With the democratic upheaval in Niger in 1993, he returned to his homeland and worked as diplomatic advisor to Prime Ministers Mahamadou Issoufou and Souley Abdoulaye . In 1996 Illo became Secretary General and in 1999 technical advisor in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2001 to 2004 he worked at the Nigerian embassy in Brussels . He then served as deputy permanent representative of his country at UNESCO in Paris .

In February 2008, Adani Illo received in Geneva the post of Ambassador of Niger in Switzerland , Austria and Liechtenstein , also as Permanent Representative of Niger at the United Nations Office at Geneva , the United Nations Office at Vienna , at the World Trade Organization international and other organizations in Switzerland. He also represented Niger on the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency from 2010 to 2012 . In 2013 Illo moved from Geneva to Brussels . There he became Niger's ambassador to the European Union as well as to Belgium , the Netherlands , Luxembourg , Iceland and Greece . In 2015 he became Secretary General of the National Francophonie Commission instead .

Adani Illo is married and has three children.
