Barill

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The barill was an Italian and Greek measure for liquids. Different spellings were common: Barile, Barillo, Barilo and Barrille . Its size varied depending on the liquid to be measured and the scope of the city and country. For the commodity oil it was called, for example, oil barill and accordingly it was named for wine and other liquids. There was no uniform division into smaller units of measurement . In Florence the barill was divided into Fiaschi, Bocalli, Mezzette and Quartucci, elsewhere, as in Genoa, into 4 quarti and 128 quarteroni. In Genoa, a barill of wine was 3742 Paris cubic inches and in Pisa 2298 Paris cubic inches.
