Sedef Adası ('mother-of-pearl island ', Greek Αντιρόβυθος Andirovythos or Τεριβινθος Terevinthos ) is one of the prince islands near Istanbul and belongs to the Adalar district .

With an area of 15.7 hectares, the island is one of the smaller of the Prince Islands and is almost entirely privately owned. The owner of Sedef, Şehsuvar Menemencioğlu, who bought the island in 1956, ensures that the original landscape is preserved. Houses are not allowed to have more than two floors.

The original Greek name Terebinthos suggests that trees were cut on Sedef Adası for the extraction of turpentine .

In 857 Ignatios I was exiled to the island for ten years before he could return to the patriarchal throne in 867.
