Seeheim (desert)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Seeheim (also Senheim , Seheim ) is a deserted village in the area of Dettelbacher hamlet Bibergau in Kitzingen. The village was abandoned in the 14th century, the reasons for this are unknown.

Geographical location

The localization of the desert proves to be difficult due to the land consolidation in the 1960s and 1970s. Seeheim was probably to be found in the west of Bibergau halfway to Effeldorf . In the 19th century the corresponding corridor was called Am See or Der See. Today there are only fields left of the former settlement, to the south the district of Dettelbach-Bahnhof emerged. In the north is Euerfeld .

history

The place name with the ending -heim refers to the early forays of the Franconian conquerors into the region on the Main. As early as the 6th century, either planned settlements emerged or the Franks displaced the local population and built new living spaces between the Main and Steigerwald . The name prefix, here sea, was mostly relevant. In this case, however, it probably indicates the geographic conditions of the area.

Seeheim was first documented in the year 1174. At that time, the nobleman Hermann von Windheim handed the Cistercian monastery Ebrach in Steigerwald one Hube which "Situm in villa Seheim" (located in the village Seeheim). This is the only mention of the flourishing settlement. In 1318 there was only one Bibergauer field name at the place of the village . In 1340 the Ebrach monastery still owned several vineyards near the former settlement. In the 15th and 16th centuries, the corridor was often called Seeheim.
