The Seeleitensee , also Seeleithensee or Leitensee , is a moor lake in the Innviertel in Upper Austria . Together with the adjacent littered meadows , it is designated as a nature reserve.

geography

The Seeleitensee lies at an altitude of 425  m above sea level. A. on the edge of the Ibmer Moors in the municipality of Eggelsberg south of the village of Ibm. The southeast bank forms the municipal boundary to Moosdorf . The lake has an area of ​​10 ha and a maximum depth of 2.1 m. It is fed by several brooks and ditches, the drainage takes place in the west via the Leitenseekanal to Moosach . The water renewal time is 4.25 days.

The Seeleitensee was created by the erosion of the Salzach Glacier in the last Ice Age. It is surrounded by a moor landscape, partly also by extensively used agricultural areas.

Water quality

The Seeleitensee used to be heavily polluted by the discharge of sewage from households and leather production, which is no longer the case today. Nevertheless, like other Innviertel lakes, it is in a weakly eutrophic state, which is due to the nutrient inputs from the surrounding moor. The mean visibility is 1.2 m, the water temperature averages 11.3 ° C and a maximum of 23.3 ° C.

Flora and fauna

The lake is surrounded in large areas by a belt of reeds and has large populations of the yellow pond rose  . On the east bank finder, a head rushes -Gesellschaft with Mehlprimel , vulgar Fettkraut and broadleaf cotton grass .

The lake is an important breeding area for waterfowl and other species of birds that are bound to wet habitats, such as the common tern , the black kite and the marsh harrier .

The lake and its surroundings have been designated as a nature reserve Seeleithensee and adjacent litter meadows since 2001 . On an area of ​​67 hectares, it encompasses the lake with the surrounding reed belt as well as a large area of littered meadows and barren agricultural meadows .
