The seaman's club Oase is operated by the Deutsche Seemannsmission Hannover e. V. and is thus a member of the German Seamen's Mission . It is located in Bützfleth near the Hanseatic city of Stade on the lower Elbe , the district capital of the eponymous district in Lower Saxony .

The station sees itself as an international meeting place and welcomes not only seafarers but also drivers from all over the world. The club is mainly financed by donations, collections from the parishes, voluntary ship taxes from the port companies and contributions from the Evangelical Lutheran Church. The oasis welcomes around 5,500 seafarers, truck drivers and guests from the area all year round.

history

The station in Stade-Bützfleth of the German Seamen's Mission was opened on October 4, 1986. At the beginning the seaman's club was located in a barrack directly on the dike, but in 1995 the much larger new building was moved into at its current location. This can be reached on foot from the berths of the seagoing ships.

Club work

The work in the club is done by 14 full-time and voluntary employees. A bus shuttle is available for the transfer of seafarers to and from the port and the nearby supermarket and the surrounding area. As in every seaman's mission, due to the ever shorter lay times, on-board visits are very important, during which the employees have many things that are important for the seafarers in their luggage, especially SIM cards . Should seafarers have to go to the Stade Hospital, the employees of the Seafarer's Mission take care of sick visits and pastoral support. Joint seafaring services are celebrated in cooperation with parishes in the region. FSJ or BufDi positions are also filled. An important and popular team member is the Australian Shepherd Nala . Nala likes to keep all visitors company.

Like many seaman's missions, the Oase seaman's club also operates a small second-hand clothing corner with clothing donations that are passed on to the seafarers free of charge. Garments for men in small to medium sizes are particularly needed.

Furnishing

In the approximately 220 square meter club building there are sitting areas, table tennis, billiards, musical instruments, table football, darts and a karaoke system. For home contact, seafarers can use free WiFi in all rooms, in the constantly accessible entrance area even outside of opening hours. A small shop offers everyday necessities such as SIM cards , toiletries, drinks and snacks for the stay in the club. An outdoor sports field for basketball and a terrace complete the facilities.
