The Żar glider airfield ( Polish Lotnisko Żar , ICAO code : EPZR ) is the glider airfield of the Górska Szkoła Szybowcowa “Żar” flight school near the village of Międzybrodzie Żywieckie in the Czernichów commune in the Żywiecki powiat in Poland . It is located about 9 kilometers east of Bielsko-Biała and 12 kilometers north of Żywiec .
The airfield has two grass runways, 390 m and 310 m long. Since the inclination at the foot of Mount Żar is 12 or 5 degrees, you can only start in a westerly direction. Landings take place in an easterly direction against the slope. The location in the Little Beskids enables gliding in the leeward in special weather conditions . The course was laid out from 1935 to 1936 and at that time enabled starters with a rubber rope.
