The Witzenhausen-Burgberg glider airfield (also Burgberg bei Witzenhausen ) is a glider airfield on the 213 m high Burgberg near Witzenhausen in Northern Hesse on the edge of the Kaufunger Forest . The operator is the Luftsportverein Witzenhausen.
Flight operations
The glider airfield has two crossed, around 400 m long grass runways and is approved for glider operations with F-tow . The space is also used by motor sailers and various private planes.
Special features of the place
Because of the geographic conditions, the take-off direction is predominantly 17 and the landing direction 35, regardless of the wind conditions 35 is possible. Then the following applies: take-off direction 06, landing direction 24.
history
The early medieval castle Ermschwerd was located on the western spur of the now partially wooded Ermschwerd castle hill (top left in the picture) northwest above the airfield .
Trivia
In November 2015, wild boars devastated runway 06/24, so that it had to be temporarily closed to flight operations. The main runway 17/35 was not affected and could continue to be used without restrictions.
