The spectral tarsier ( tarsius tarsier , Syn. : Lemur tarsier Erxleben 1777 , lemur spectrum Pallas , 1778 ) is a primate species from the group of Koboldmakis and the type species of the tarsius ( tarsius ). It occurs only on the island of Selayar south of Sulawesi. All tarsier of Sulawesi used to be called Tarsius tarsier .
features
Selayar tarsier, like all tarsier, are very small primates. Their head-torso length is between 12 and 14 cm, the tail length between 23 and 26 cm and the weight between 98 g (females) and 103 g (males). The fur is grayer than that of the Koboldmakis on Sulawesi and appears almost silvery. The black nasal patch is not very pronounced and the whitish hair on the sides of the upper lip is also not very clear. The rear foot is shorter than that of the Makassar tarsier ( Tarsius fuscus ). In the upper jaw there is a short diastema between the incisor I2 and the canine. The tail is relatively long, only very sparsely hairy, the hairy area at the tail end is only short (95 to 124 mm).
Way of life
The Selayar tarsier lives from sea level to the highest hills on the island. Selayar consists mainly of coral limestone, has little fertile soil and has only sparse vegetation. The exact way of life of the species has not yet been researched. Like other goblin lemurs, it will be nocturnal, will always return to its usual sleeping places and feed mainly on insects and small vertebrates. He may live in small, monogamous, or polygamous family groups. One group caught in late September consisted of an adult pair, an almost adult female, two pups weighing 73 and 75 g, and one or more specimens that escaped. The young must have been born a few months beforehand.
