Self-assessment

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Self-assessment is the ability of one's own person to express oneself in terms of personality traits , abilities and skills, etc. Ä. assess yourself.

In the learning context, this is an assessment of the results of their own learning process by the respective learner, which is based on known goals and criteria.

Because of this evaluative property , the terms self-assessment and self-assessment cannot be clearly distinguished.

Since a self-assessment is subjective and not objective, there is a risk of overestimating or underestimating oneself and the influence of other cognitive biases on the assessment.

Influencing the self-assessment on the actual result of an action is also called self-fulfilling prophecy . The expectation of self-efficacy is the expectation of a person to be able to carry out actions successfully on the basis of their own self-assessment of their own abilities. The opposite of self-assessment is external assessment.

Self-assessment test

A questionnaire that is used to measure the self-assessment of a person or a group of people in certain situations in order to draw conclusions is called a self-assessment test or self-assessment sheet .

The self-assessment test is used, for example, in psychometrics as a judgment test , e.g. B. in recruitment tests , personality tests , study aptitude tests , interest and inclination tests or career choice tests . These tests can be carried out either at counseling centers or online, for example in an online self-assessment . In clinical psychology and medicine , self-assessment tests are carried out with the help of special standardized psychological test procedures in order to determine , for example, the level of suffering and the course of a person's illness or to give a differential diagnosis of mental illnesses and symptoms. Tests are subject to strict, scientifically sound quality criteria and standards. In addition, a response tendency such as social desirability can skew the result and should therefore be considered when designing the test.

In the social sciences and market research , self-assessment tests are carried out to compile statistics and surveys in order to be able to conduct empirical social research .

Self-assessment tests are used in pedagogy and didactics as self-evaluation to assess one's own learning progress and competencies and to determine learning difficulties. This should make the learner more aware of his weaknesses and strengths and find out what he still has to work on. The teacher can also teach the learner more specifically and develop a curriculum.
