history

During a trip to the USA in 1950, the electrical engineer Joseph Jeger discovered the vending machine, which was still completely unknown in Switzerland. Back in Switzerland, he obtained permission from his employer to set up such machines in the company. With his savings, Jeger procured five machines from the USA, which proved extremely popular.

Since the imported products were built according to US standards, Jeger and his first employee began converting the imported US machines to Swiss standards in Murten in 1957 - the converted machines were then named Selecta for the first time. In 1959, Jeger bought the Schweizerische Automatengesellschaft AG (SAG) for the series production of Selecta machines. In times of administrative care , Selecta also employed forced labor .

In 1985 Merkur AG took over the company, after which it was converted into Merkur Holding AG, which now continued the vending machine division as a subsidiary of the group. In the mid-1990s, Merkur was restructured, and in 1996 the name Valora Holding AG was adopted. As part of the restructuring, the vending machine division became independent as Selecta Management AG in 1997 and was listed on the Swiss stock exchange. In 2001 the British Compass Group acquired the majority of shares in Selecta, which was then taken over in full.

In May 2007, ACP, a private equity fund attributable to Allianz , took over the machine operator for £ 772.5 million (around 1.1 billion euros at the time) from the British Compass Group.

Selecta has been part of the private equity company KKR since December 2015 .

Selecta works with the Starbucks coffee brand and sells extensive self-service equipment for companies under the name Starbucks on the go , the visual design of which is based on Starbucks branches and can be operated with Starbucks coffee.
