Selenicereus murrillii is a species of plant in the genus Selenicereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The epithet of the species honors the American mycologist William Alphonso Murrill (1869–1957), who worked at the New York Botanical Garden .

description

Selenicereus murrillii grows lithophytically by climbing and becomes up to 6 meters (or more) long. Numerous aerial roots arise from the slender, dark green shoots up to 8 millimeters in diameter . On their 7 to 8, low, blunt, somewhat purple-colored, widely separated ribs, white woolen areoles sit . There are 5 to 6 thorns . The shortest is greenish to black and conical, the longest bent back and up to 2 centimeters long.

The pure white flowers are up to 15 centimeters long and reach the same diameter. The fruits are not described.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Selenicereus murrillii is common in the Mexican state of Colima . The first description was published in 1920 by Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Vulnerable (VU) ", d. H. listed as endangered.
