William Alphonso Murrill

William Alphonso Murrill (born October 13, 1869 in Lynchburg , † December 25, 1957 in Gainesville ) was an American mycologist and known for his research on Agaricales and Polyporaceae . Its botanical author abbreviation is " Murrill ".

Life

Murrill received his PhD from Cornell University in 1897 under George Francis Atkinson , a leading authority on the taxonomy of the Basidiomycetes . From 1904 he worked as an assistant curator at the Herbarium and Library at Columbia University, and ultimately became a curator from 1919 to 1925. He also worked at the University of Florida and published more than 500 papers.
