Selenicereus rubineus is a species of plant in the genus Selenicereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Selenicereus rubineus grows spread out to climbing with richly branched, light green, smooth and white dotted shoots 3 (or more) meters in length. Their 4 to 5 low ribs are 4 to 5 millimeters high and slightly rounded at the edges. The areoles, which are 4 to 4.5 centimeters apart and are covered with white, curled wool, give rise to a mostly single, awl-like, stinging thorn up to 2 millimeters in length.
The flowers are 18 to 19 centimeters long and can reach a diameter of up to 18 centimeters. The outer bracts are pink-magenta colored below and greenish cream colored and tinged pink in the upper half. The inner bracts are cream to white with a dark pink base. The pericarpel is covered with wide scales, thorns and cream-colored wool. The fruits are not described.
Distribution and systematics
Selenicereus rubineus is distributed in southern Mexico in the state of Oaxaca . The first description was published in 1993 by Myron William Kimnach (* 1922).
Selenicereus rubineus is possibly synonymous with Selenicereus inermis .
