Sellapass

The Sella Pass ( Italian Passo della Sella ) is a mountain pass in the Gotthard massif .

It is located at an altitude of 2700  m above sea level. M. between the Pizzo Prevat in the north and the Giübin in the southeast and connects the Gotthardpasshöhe in the west with the background of the Unteralptal in the northeast. The border between the communities of Airolo ( Canton Ticino ) and Andermatt ( Canton Uri ) runs at the top of the pass .

The pass is accessible with a hiking trail ( T2 ). From the top of the pass, the summit of Giübin ( 2776  m above sea level ) can be reached in a few minutes .

In May 1799, Austrian troops ( Dutch hunters under Lieutenant Colonel Johann Le Loup, who later became the commander of the Imperial and Royal Infantry Regiment No. 59 ) reached the Sella Pass from the south.
