Selman Trtovac (born August 14, 1970 in Zadar ) is a visual artist from Belgrade .

Life

From 1990 to 1993 he studied painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade. In March 1993 he went to the Düsseldorf Art Academy , class of Klaus Rinke . In 1997 he was named a master class student. In 2000 he finished his studies. He lives and works in Belgrade and Düsseldorf .

Selman Trtovac belongs to a generation that articulated their artistic language in Belgrade and Düsseldorf during the 1990s. In the early 1990s he was active in the Belgrade Student Cultural Center. In 1993 he went to Düsseldorf, where he continued developing in Klaus Rinke's class .

The training at the art faculty in Belgrade, which meant an academic examination of the problems in art, served as a basis for further training at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, where a different view of art was cultivated, which in turn takes into account the experiences of "modern" art would have. Working with two artists - professors influenced his artistic language. On one side it was Klaus Rinke and his class and on the other was Jannis Kounellis.

The sublimation of these two influences derives its own artistic language, which in turn reflects an existential experience. This development can be observed in the works that have been created since 1997.
