The East Styrian Art East culture laboratory comes from a LEADER project in 2009 and is established in Gleisdorf . It was originally conceived as a socio-cultural hub, but has been involved in cultural and knowledge work ( joint knowledge construction ) in the sense of independent regional development and the conditions of contemporary art since 2014 .

Periods

The first LEADER culture conference (29 January 2009)
  • 2009: "Art East: Kulturfokus Energie-Region", a project of the kultur.at: Verein für medienkultur .
  • 2010–2013: “Social -cultural turntable art”, a project by kunst ost - cultural-political competence center .
  • 2014: “Kulturpakt Gleisdorf 2014”, a project of the TIP Tourismusverband Gleisdorf in cooperation with Kunst Ost.
  • 2014/2015: The areas of work have become more differentiated, the Gleisdorf Culture Pact goes its own way (Gleisdorf Culture Pact: "Old knowledge is repackaged" ), Art East is dedicated to the "Kulturspange" project.
  • 2015: The paradigm shift. The Gleisdorf department for culture and marketing has largely redesigned the “Gleisdorf Cultural Pact” and redefined the cultural pact agenda with the publication “People, Ideas, Networks”. LEADER context

In the “Leader 2007-2013” ​​period, there was a special case in Styria . The culture department of the state had issued special guidelines under state culture officer Kurt Flecker .

With this, the EU program for the "connection between actions for the development of the rural economy" (according to the German wording of the program title LEADER: French Liaison entre actions de l'économie rurale ) for the first time created a formal link with the Styrian cultural department and es Projects on contemporary art could be developed in the LEADER context.

Art East was the very first LEADER cultural project according to these new special guidelines, other regions followed with cultural projects. (The Styrian spatial planning lists "19 Styrian LEADER regions 2007-2013" for this period.)

This gives rise to two main themes in the Weiz Gleisdorf energy region, namely mobility and energy self- sufficiency . For the genres of art and culture, these specifications were bundled at Kunst Ost in the focus on mobility history in order to have interfaces for the regional focus topics: The main topics of the 'Weiz-Gleisdorf energy region' are energy self-sufficiency and mobility. Accordingly, in the context of the history of mobility, 'kunst ost' is currently working on contributions to the 'International Museum Day' (May 12) or the 'Long Night of Museums' (October 5).

In 2013, a merger of the LEADER regions Almenland and the energy region Weiz-Gleisdorf was worked on, but in the context of the decision for a "two- brand strategy", no link to the cultural agenda was decided this year: "Both regions and their high-quality brands will be retained despite the merger."

Status 2015

One result of the LEADER project Kulturpakt Gleisdorf 2014 (sponsored by: TIP Tourismusverband Gleisdorf ) is the “Kulturspange”. Three cultural initiatives form the core of this cultural laboratory:

A starting point in terms of content in the art discourse is the book “Umetniča Strategija” (“Artistic Strategy”) by Selman Trtovac, based on his dissertation of the same name.

With the separation of the Gleisdorf Cultural Pact and Art East , the cultural clasp lost its basis from the original concept. In March 2015 the department for culture and marketing Gleisdorf invited to a press conference regarding the Gleisdorf culture pact . It was Art East no longer included.

The results of this step have been published in a special supplement in the organ of the city (city journal ) and prove that the cultural pact concept developed by Kunst Ost has been completely ignored. Suddenly it was said:

The original concept for 2015 was published in “Die Ehre des Handwerks” (Myth of Puch, Art and the Gleisdorf Culture Pact). It turned out to be obsolete with regard to the Gleisdorf cultural pact and made the cultural clasp obsolete.

The funding objective of the “Guideline for the Funding of Measures in the Framework of the Axis 4 LEADER Action Program on Cultural Funding in Rural Areas” (2007-2013 by the European Union and the Province of Styria - Culture) included “holistic strengthening of regions in the field of culture and setting priorities in Area of ​​contemporary art and culture ” .

There, the main objective was specified, "at the interface between art and everyday life" , the respective region and its population should be included in the discussion of social and artistic issues. “The artistic potential of a region should also enter into an exchange with international artistic positions” .

Collective and processual

The artist Selman Trtovac , formerly the “Treci Beograd” collective , is a pivotal point in Kunst Ost's multi-year art practice , which is about an international situation that is anchored locally and regionally .

A working week with Sergej Letov, Sergej Romashko and Sabine Hänsgen ( Moscow Conceptualism ) in Gleisdorf in 2010: “Virtuosos of Deception. An insight into the universe of the collective actions group ” , a cooperation with the Styrian Autumn Festival , led to a joint working week in Belgrade in 2011 : “ Virtuosos of Deception. An insight into the universe of the collective actions group ” .

There is a contract for this action, concluded between Treci Beograd (Serbia), Collective Actions (Russia), Art East (Austria) and the filmmaker Veljko Pavlovic, who died in 2014.

Since 2007, the Serbian duo diSTRUKTURA has been part of this structure of several years of collective cultural practice by Kunst Ost , which has been in permanent working contact with the aforementioned group since "next code: love" (love in the age of telenovelas) .

At the end of 2014, this led to the Kunst Ost- "Kulturspange" in cooperation with scientist Günther Marchner ( Netzwerk Salzkammergut , Bad Mitterndorf ) and artist Selman Trtovac ( Heterotopia PerpetuumMobile , Beograd )

With phase III, the cultural clasp came to an end in 2015. The realization of “Mythos Puch” in the community of Albersdorf-Prebuch created a new working approach for regional cooperation: “Friday is mainly dedicated to the spirit when artists, collectors, scientists, media experts or entrepreneurs think out loud about craft and folk culture.”
