Selvagem Pequena is the second largest of the islands belonging to Portugal in the uninhabited archipelago of the Ilhas Selvagens .

Of the Navigator in 1438 Diogo Gomes discovered island located west of the North African coast in the Atlantic Ocean approximately 280 km south-southeast of the Portuguese island of Madeira and 165 km north of the to Spain belonging to the Canary Island of Tenerife . It is the largest of the southern group of these small islands. The Canal da Selvagem Pequena separates it from the Ilhéu da Fora to the west . There is a lighthouse on the island, the Farol da Selvagem Pequena, built in 1977 . There is a guard on the island from April to November.
Political Affiliation
The island and the entire archipelago form part of the municipality ( Freguesia ) Sé of the county of Funchal in the autonomous region of Madeira .
The Portuguese President Aníbal Cavaco Silva visited the island in 2013.
