Life
Simon or Sem Schlör, Schleer or Schleher was born in the first half of the 16th century in Laudenbach, probably Laudenbach near Weikersheim . He had his workshop in Schwäbisch Hall and was a citizen of the city. Numerous children resulted from his three marriages. Schlör died in late 1597 or early 1598, probably in Schwäbisch Hall.
From around 1555 Schlör produced numerous epitaphs for aristocratic families in different areas of Württemberg . He also carried out some important commissions for the dukes of Württemberg, including the Apostle Credo panels for the castle church and the statues of counts for the collegiate church in Stuttgart.

reception
August Wintterlin judged Schlör's work in 1890:
- “Schlör's figures are always smart or well laid out and sometimes very cheeky; in the ornaments he develops a lot of imagination and taste; At that time he represented more of the Franconian artistic character with his works in Württemberg than his Swabian comrade Jos. Schmid in Urach, Jak. Woller in Schw.-Gmünd and Leonhard Baumhauer in Tübingen. "
Despite fundamental appreciation, Theodor Demmler criticized Schlör's sometimes superficial way of working in 1910:
- “He quickly casts off the bias of his youthful works and with each assignment his ability to formulate pictorial thoughts simply, naturally and appropriately increases. In contrast to some later ones, it appears to be free from aberrations of taste as long as it is measured against the standards of German Renaissance art. ... His feeling is coarse but never spurious. His technique without delicacy, but also without obtrusiveness. If we still have pleasant but not really significant works by his hand, the reason is probably less the lack of talent than the somewhat quick-witted manner of the master. He did not get any deeper into his tasks: even his clients probably had little understanding of the qualities of maturity and balance of a work of art. "
