Sema Moritz

Sema Moritz (* in Ankara , known under the artist name Sema ) is a German - Turkish singer.

Career

She had her first successes with classical Turkish music in Turkey. After that she lived for a long time in Germany, where she became a member of the Turkish Workers Choir West Berlin in the 1970s . In Germany she also studied singing and acting. In the mid-1980s she was the singer of the Kreuzberger Freunde ensemble . In 1989 she founded the group Taksim together with her husband Dieter Moritz in Berlin , which released various albums on CD (Germany) and MC (Turkey).

Jazz standards, experimental music and Islamic-mystical chants are interpreted by the singer, who today names her homeland as being divided between Berlin and Istanbul, as well as Turkish classical music or jazzed up classical music. Sema Moritz is part of the Turkish chanson tradition of the 1920s to 40s, which is rather unknown in the German-speaking area .

Sema’s current CD "Ekho" was only available in Turkey for a long time.
